I can't find my book with the numbers in it, so I'm going from memory. Here's what seems to stick.
The "First" and "Second" design is, IINM, the designation for Before and After the strike that year. I'm also pretty sure that the first design blocks were left over from before the war (1942). I'm not positive on that, though.
ADEA tells me that it's a 235 with a regular clutch that was cast in Flint. (The D is for 1946, the E is for 235, and the last A is the code for Flint and regular clutch.) I assume that the A, used in conjunction with the E tells what sort of truck it originally came out of. My truck came with an engine with a serial starting with ADCA, which codes out to a Flint 216 with a standard clutch that was used in 3/4 ton trucks in 1946 -- That first A, coupled with the C, signified it was in the 3600 Series trucks ONLY.
So, maybe Mike's engine was originally in a 3600, or maybe a 3800. Or, maybe that is the code for the big 'bolts. :confused:
