The manuals will have you adjust the clutch for pedal free play but I understand that the proper way is to pull the inspection cover and adjust for lutch disk to pressure plate to flywheel gap with pedal pressed. I think bottom line is that you just want some free play at the top of the pedal to keep the throwout bearing from being constantly driven when pedal is not pressed.
