Along those same lines, my daughter is working on her masters degree in environmental studies, is into minimalism and has been looking for something to write a paper on. I suggested she chronicle the progression of how we've gone from "Cave to Castle" to clarify just how and why we got to this point in our society.
Not to say that I haven’t fallen victim to materialism, I’m just as bad as the next guy, me with five cars or trucks, a barn out back of the 2,000 sq.ft. house, a basement full of my hobbies and just my wife and I living there. But giving all of that up would be like giving up my meat and potatoes. I suppose it has a lot to do with the way I was raised and lived all of my life after all I was born a capitalist.
