The Flowmaster 40's are kind of loud anyway and not as mellow as the Cherry Bombs, The rest of it is the fact that sounds are notoriously hard to describe, locate, isolate and please everyones ear. This is why it is unwise to weld mufflers in. I have the same issue currently with a new pair of Edelbrock mufflers (not welded) on my 57' BelAir. Might be just right for someone younger but I like a quiter mellower sound. A hundred miles on them and I'm sick of them. But they will be easy to change.
The sweetest sounding sixes I ever heard were on old schoolbuses that had very long exhaust pipes but no mufflers whatsoever. The cackled a little when shifting but were not loud. Just cool sounding. | | |
