I just changed the dual mufflers on my stock 235 with Fenton split, two part headers. I changed from a pair of Cherry Bomb manufactured Turbo mufflers that had a fairly quiet subdued sound to a pair of more throaty Flowmaster 40 Series Delta Flow two chamber mufflers part number 942042. They were recommended by Flowmaster.
http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/index.php?cat=1 The new Flowmasters sound really good and mellow at idle, smooth even acceleration and at smooth cruise. When ever I really punch the pair of dual Holly Webers mounted on an Offenhouser manifold, the sound of the new mufflers becomes a tinny/ rattle/ bark sound. With both windows down, it sounds like all of this objectionable noise comes from the passenger side and up front, not out of the back of the truck. I have checked for loose fittings and everything is tight. The new mufflers are welded to the pipes.
Does this sound like a tune up, timing, carb, etc. issue to any of you experts or is this just something in the mufflers?
