Dave, what brand paint are you using? You say the mixing ratio is 4-2-1 paint, reducer , hardener? Usually the reducer comes after the hardener, Id double check that.
Also what temp reducer are you using? if it's too hot out, you may want to switch to a slower reducer so it will lay down better.
