Trailer will be much safer despite the extra weight. It is not a good idea to try to dolly more weight than your tow vehicle especially over hill and dale. If you tell Uhaul exactly what you intend to haul they can advise you if it can be done but you run the risk that they will not rent you the equipment if they feel it is unsafe.
