i am no expert on anything but i have learned not to cheap out on drills. i would stay away from box store type stuff here even if it's hss. the newer drills with tin coatings are nice but i wouldn't cheap out on then either. if your drill is breaking i would reduce speed, it it won't hold a edge that's something else. i like to buy used sets of quality drills and replacements from industrial supply houses. if you can buy a drill sharpener you can make them last a long time.
