On my 64 1 ton with a 292 I changed the rearend to a 78 P-30 out of a 78 410-411 ratio, correct width, bigger rear brakes, and also switched the trans to a SM465, everything was a bolt in. Could run 60-65 with no problem, the other switch was to change the master cylinder to a dual type, gave me a safer brake system. Drove it that way for 6 yrs every day carring 9,000 lbs.
