I drive my 1 Ton every day, 35 miles, often with a ton in it. I find that if I have any load, over say 300 lbs in the box, I use low to get her rolling. If I am on any kind of a hill, I use low gear, often, on steep hills from a dead stop, I'm just rolling by the time I get into second gear. Otherwise there is just too much clutch slipping to suit me. I do find, as others that when unloaded, I could really use another gear. I don't run over 50 mph, as the roads here are just too curvy and hilly to go faster. I do tend to run the engine up pretty fast, so when shifting, it falls back into the power-band. One of the great advantages of the 5.14, is that I can chugg along at 25 mph in forth. Then I can hear the radio finally!
