I was talking about this subject with a buddy this morning. Is there any reason you can't let the two poster down on a stop at the top and park another vehicle under it???? Why is it necessary to have a four-post lift to store them piggyback?

No reason at all, it's been done many times.
I think the reasons people prefer a 4 post for parking are:
It's simpler to use, just drive on and lift, no arms to carefully and safely position. (The two post takes more time and skill to use safely)
Appears more stable, and probably is, but the two post is fine too, mostly an appearance and piece of mind thing I think.
If you just want to make parking room the 4 post is probably cheaper.
