Regardless of the story, and as others have said, the truck is easily worth $1000.00+ in parts alone. There will always be a disparity between the price one asks when selling a truck, and the price someone is willing to pay. I agree totally with the valuation in the first post by GMONIZ. Without sufficient documentation, or pictures of a similar truck in use by the Air Force, it is hard to go past the $1,800 mark.
