If your friend has an old title or registration for this truck, try to match that VIN# to the stamped number on the motor. If the motor has been changed or paperwork lost the DMV or CHP will assign a new number and attach a new id plate. I was able to find a service that does DMV legwork for car lots and this person did my registration for a reasonable fee.
