Hopefully this really bad drawing will show up and help explain what is happening. It is based on the picture that Denny linked to above. As I move the throttle shaft linkage in a counterclockwise direction indicating acceleration, the throttle butterfly is closing.

If this is correct, how would less fuel+air accelerate the car/maintain a higher speed?
