They are a great carb, but highly misunderstood. Thanks to the advice here I picked up the Q-jet book and it blows my mind how well it works now. It took about three times of pulling it apart and trying it out before I was finally satisfied with how it ran. The book made a world of difference.
That and ALWAYS replace the old phenolic float! They saturate with fuel over time and give an inappropriate float level due to the extra weight.
