i never could figure out why there would be an exemption for farmers as farming is a commercial enterprise (other than a powerful farm lobby). i've forgotten all the exemptions but fire fighters were also listed when they first came out with the cdl. I figured state and county workers would be exempt but when my stepfather went to work for the county they required him to get a cdl.
