Air brakes is really not the issue. Federal law requires a CDL to drive with a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 26,001 lbs or more. There are certain farm exemptions including hauling crops from the field to the market, but a person has to prove he is either a custom harvester or a farmer by profession. This truck would probably have a gvw of 38000 to 44000 lbs. depending on what axles are under it. This is why trucks like this are very cheap. They are really not reliable or efficient for daily commercial use, and they are too expensive to own for casual use.
