Do not stick in a 12 volt battery until you are certain the system has been converted. The first thing you would ruin is your gas gauge. Been there-done that.
Braided strap to the chassis is ground and obviously the other is positive. Make certain where the braided strap attaches to the chassis the area is clean of rust and such.
