Well, I guess you can tell him that if he would not have left the scene of the accident and come to your door, you may have been able to work it out. Unfortunately, he didn't, and now it's too late.
At least you know who did it, and he confessed on the note, so you should get compensated. Hopefully the insurance company will be fair.
I would almost bet, that he already took his to a body shop for an estimate. He probably found out he couldn't afford to pay for fixing it and had to call his insurance company.
