I don't know what body work it needs, but if the rest of the paint is in good shape you can do the repairs and use one of the new auto primers that you can roll on. The big manufacurers make them and, although you shouldn't do an entire car with them, they are good for spots. You could prime the repairs, then sand the old paint down a bit and get everything level. It doesn't sound to me like you're looking for a show truck, so if you get a good even surface out of the old paint maybe one of the slightly more expensive maaco services would suit your needs.
