I agree with Rob. There's nothing wrong with a "slip and slide" powerglide. My grandmother had a '65 Impala with a gutsy 327-300 horse engine in it coupled to a powerglide and it hauled butt and never gave her a minute's problem. (even when grandson abused it!) And as far as your statement about giving up stovebolting, you should have your mouth washed out with soap!
