This list states that the 1966 truck 283 was painted blue/gray. Most rebuild/repaints would most likely have been painted the readily available passenger Chevrolet Engine Orange.
It would be interesting to see a 1966 factory brochure with truck and car engines side-by-side (these types of brochures are available in earlier years and make it clear that the colors of car and truck engines were different).
