I can vouch for the cold and the very wintery weather here in the central Midwest.
Storm system in the KC area started last night with freezing drizzle/rain which built up about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice overnight, followed by some pre-dawn snow which built up to over an inch on top of the ice when I took the first 2 pics below just after sunrise. The remainder of the daylight hours included continued snow ranging from very light at times to heavy. Pic 3 taken about 4:45pm local time. I think we are now at about 6+" deep with more heavy snow coming yet tonight as you can see in pics 4, 5 and 6.
Pic 7 is my answer to hunkering down to wait out the snow and cold - one big pot of chili!
Temps have ranged from a high of about 24 F down to 14 F with current wind chill at -3 F. Folks a little farther North of us have more ice and snow. Wasn't long ago that a news flash announced that Kansas State Patrol has closed all highways, including interstates, from the KC Metro to about 270 West due to extreme weather conditions causing multiple crashes, roll overs and vehicle strandings.
One of my grandkids lives in downtown KC and said last night and through today they have had to close multiple roads and highways. Reported many vehicle crashes due to folks trying to drive on the hilly roadways and sliding into parked vehicles or immovable objects.
Hope everyone can stay warm and comfortable through this. We just had our very first pass of the city snow plow (1 pass only) on our designated Emergency Snow Route road. Clean up is going to take a while.
