Wow have done those pilot bushings every way mentioned...surely in 14 years he has it fixed by now ! Also doubt it is brass probably sintered iron (is magnetic). Long ago they made a brass one could hear it squall 3 blocks away. Not good to ream the bore,will wipe the lubricant pourous suface closed.
