For the purposes of compression testing, I just snug the adjusting screw to eliminate any clearance, then back off 1/4 turn of the screw to assure that the valves get completely closed. Be sure the distributor rotor is pointed at the cylinder you're adjusting to be sure both valves are supposed to be closed. Jerry
