You may have additional issues; but fix the one you know is bad, and see what happens.

Jon. X2 My engine ran like garbage until I figured out the vac advance was toast. I doubt that is THE issue here. But might as well just knock it off the list. If you can’t find a replacement right away, at least plug the port.

Go ahead and throw parts at the problem if you choose, but I'd "Test, Not Guess" like Sun used to promote. Disconnect and plug the vacuum line if you like, but I've never seen a bad vacuum advance keep an otherwise good engine from running well at low to medium speed.

For the purposes of compression testing, I just snug the adjusting screw to eliminate any clearance, then back off 1/4 turn of the screw to assure that the valves get completely closed. Be sure the distributor rotor is pointed at the cylinder you're adjusting to be sure both valves are supposed to be closed.
