The adapter ring for the Powerglide transmission makes it impossible to use that type of tool on the ring gear. It's a narrow casting about 1 1/2" wide that completely encircles the flex plate ring gear. I believe there is a sheet metal cover over the lower part of the adapter ring that will allow a long box end wrench to be used on the torque converter to flex plate bolts to turn the engine. If the crankshaft front damper is accessible, most of them have a square hole in the front that a 3/4" drive ratchet or extension will engage to turn the crankshaft.
