I used to hang with a bunch of guys who either raced their street cars or built drag cars. After one bench-racing session I realized my 500 cc motorcycle would out-accelerate most of their cars.

So I bought a bigger bike with a longer wheel base (reduced wheelies) and suddenly I was faster than all of them.

Find a post that Grigg participated in and read his signature line. I can't quote it, but I can tell you how I intrepret it: Decide how you'll know you achieved success and then make a plan to get those results.

If success is winning the stop light drags your best plan might be to start with something designed to go fast in the first place.

If success is having an old pickup that's faster than any Mustang or Corvette you encounter your plan is a whole lot more demanding and you'll need to get used to disappointment.
