I see what you mean. I was plagiarizing from HotRod Lincoln. He referred to the vertical cylinder that is connected to the block as a “stand pipe”.

Looking at the picture, if you cut the downtube off in the area pointed out by the arrow, and adapt the PVC valve and grommet to the cut tube near the tee, you would eliminate any oil splash and still be able to hook up the PVC system.

I’m quite sure I have seen this done before, But I can’t remember where.
