Was that larger/longer road draft tube used in all years (1948-1955st, and through the end of 235/261 years)?

47-53 trucks (standard cab, downdraft tube) were the same as the part/box shown by Brad - part# 3693661
1948 was different (first year for PVC, I think - might have been for updraft engines only on 1948)?

1954 and later were different - does anyone know why/how?
(Note: the engine changed to high pressure oil system in 1954).

However, looking through Brad's photos - a similar height/style tube is shown on later engines.
