The fishplate and flange bolts will hold more than the weld, but there is nothing wrong with overkill. On trucks that we modify to use daily, we put a crossmember at the splice splice, but for occasionally using a truck it isn't necessary and it looks like the cab mount crossmember and the front suspension cross member are pretty close together anyway. Do you have a magnetic drill, or did you have to drill them the hard way?
