Before he puller the transmission, did he happen to crawl under the truck while someone stepped on the clutch pedal to see if a space was created between the clutch disc and the flywheel/pressure plate? He may have just had an issue with the clutch fork ball being worn out, or the clutch fork adjuster was not adjusted properly.
