Love them little critters, down right friendly little fellers....but.....given the choice
of scopin' up the grass clippings vs the other.....think I'll stick with the grass rake.
Oh...and one last entry about that "antique" B&S L-head engine. Although the engine
looked, and even runs like new, the kidney shaped foam air filter had turned to a sticky
mass of yellow/black jelly. A couple hours of driving around to a dozen HDW stores
and small engine shops and I finally gave up and began scouring the internet. Same
conclusion, no replacement parts found for vintage B&S engines. Lots of foam filters
for the new ones from eight to twelve bucks which I though about buying big and cutting
down.
Then...I recalled the last time I scrubbed down the tars on Old Blue, I went searching for
that big open cell foam sponge and....of course, it too, like so many things around Shangri la,
was in hiding somewhere. Back to Walmart's auto section and I grabbed a couple $1.69 3" thick
sponges in green and orange. Traced out the pattern, sliced them up on the band saw and cut
the intake hole with a hole saw in the Delta Drill Press and voila....a perfect replacement air filter
for under two bucks.
