This is what the CPP kit says. (It does not say to grind anything or drill anything or go to a machine shop.)
"This kit contains everything at the spindle needed to change your 6-lug drum brakes to 5-lug on 4-3/4" GM passenger car bolt circle disc brakes while retaining the stock spindles."
1. I would not do ANYTHING to the kit. I may slightly grind something on my truck if necessary.
2. If there is no technical help, I would send it back and buy from someone else.
3. NOTHING can hit except the stops. Nothing can interfere.
4. If these kits don't fit, we need to hold the vendor accountable. It's up to them to disclose this info before a purchase. If it's user error or non standard truck parts, different story.
5. You are thinking of changes that could cause brake failure and you definitely are modifying the kit/installation and rendering it non returnable.
6. You did not post the instructions as asked. We need info to help you just like you need help from us. You must respond to all questions and requests for info.
We may catch something or understand the problem better to help.
Bart, you are right on the money here. They need it to be right to market it. Back in 2011 I bought a chrome steering column from them (CPP) for my roadster and the entire run of them were defective and dangerous, as it turned out, enough of us called and complained and CPP recalled and replaced the entire lot for nothing.
