ok soo i found something... at first i dropped the 292 when using google and I kept seeing responses with 250's... which I know this is not.... but I saw this portion of a post.
"Leo Santucci says the numbers stamped into the distr pad indicate where the block was cast and its "dress" (Compr ratio and acc).
On page 17(Chev Inline 6 Cyl Pwr Manl) he lists casting # 3994258 as a '63-'66 292."
So with the date code Im guessing its a 62. Case closed
Still can't wait to open her up and see how much has been done already towards my quest for 300hp... when we saw it run in the truck it didn't have a speck of smoke and ran quite decent.. just some oil leaks. Any recommendations for rear ends and gear ratios?? Looking at pairing it to a 400 hydromatic we have. Want a nice cruiser that also will do well at highway speeds.
