Cutting the frame and welding on a IFS is not something for a weekend warrior type mechanic (I belong to that group) to try without some hands-on help from someone who knows what they are doing.
Conversely, retro-fitting power steering to the original front axle is very do-able, and lots of people are happy with this mod.
