When you have the sender out of the tank, make all your electrical connections, then move the float full up and full down positions. The will read from full to empty or some part is not functioning. Don't worry about any sparks coming off the sending unit - that is normal. Yes, right there in your tank, it is sparking. I used to work for a gauge company.
