I finally wised up after the first truck. Here in town we have Carson Nut & Bolt but they sell boxes of 100 and a little pricey. I've found that I can take one bolt/washer/nut to Ace Hardware and buy a small boxes of 50, and at a good price. Its the best way for me personally but may not be for everyone but in the end it makes a lot of sense for me and saves time and gas. A few years ago I also invested in a 72 nut/bolt bin that I did buy from Carson Nut/Bolt and labeled it.
However, one of the better investments was the Thread Checker I bought. I have used it more than I ever dreamed. Someone here on the bolt posted this link a while back but here it is again.
