Sounds like you have multiple problems at the same time. This makes trouble shooting a big challenge.
I always do the easier things first.
1)Plugs, points, condenser, spark plug wires (especially the coil one).
2)Set the timing.
3)Compression test.
4)The carb. Least likely to be bad and most difficult to fix, therefore save it for last if needed.
