New points today very often have something on the contact surfaces preventing them to spark when opening and closing them.
This is easy to check by turning the engine over until the point are closed and then manually open the points with a screw driver while the ignition switch is on. You should see a bright spark there. If not, clean them up with fine emery cloth and wipe clean with whatever denomination of paper money that you have left after pouring all your money after things which are not defective. Then don't forget to turn off the ignition. smile
