Gas gauge worked, and nothing has been touched except the gauge was sent out with the cluster to be refurbed.
Did the guy rebuild the gauge to 6 volt or 12 volts?

If you put 12 volts to a 6 volt gauge you might damage it.
If you put 12 volts to the sender post you can damage the gauge
