Bill,
8 out of 10 casting number decoders say that block # 3731548 is a '57, 265 OR 283, and was used in cars and trucks.
I bought David Vizard's book in 1975, a lot more info has come out since.
That small block might be better for the car hauler, but it will be awesome in my half ton with my '57 Corvette power pack heads, Duntov 097 solid cam, 1969 MOON Equipment cross ram intake with four WEBER DCOE sidedraft carbs, 1965 MOON 2 piece timing cover and 1957 MOON staggered valve covers.
It has a Muncie SM465 transmission with an Advance Adapters auxiliary transmission with 27% overdrive and a 12 Bolt Posi with 4.11s.
