Well are you sure that you had enough oil in the engine. I think it takes around 8 qt. to fill that pan. also make sure the oiler for the cam gear is still in. I see it in one of your pictures but it looks strange, they are usually just a crimped piece of tubing with a small hole on one side. last I would not trust that dash gauge get a good gauge and screw it into the block
