Update:

I received the three different versions of 6064 seals that I found out there. As mentioned by others, the National brand is a felt seal that fits inside the bore of the hub but does not have a lip that bottoms on the rim of the hub.

The two that were marked "Timken" and came in Timken boxes (6064) were metal with a neoprene angled inner seal surface. One had some orange retaining 'glue' on the outside diameter, the other did not. Not a big deal. Both fit exactly as the National one did, though they were somewhat less in thickness.

I found the National seal first, ordering it into my local AdvanceAuto. So I put that on the truck last week while waiting for the correct seals to come in. Mind you, the National fit fine in the bore, but it seemed to drag on the roller bearing cage. There is nothing to stop the seal from bottoming out onto the cage as there is no outer flange/lip (as is present on the seal that comes with the roller bearing kit).

Yesterday I had time (and enough snow melt) to remove the hub again and try the new Timken seals. While doing so, I confirmed that the National seal was, indeed, dragging on the cage, as you can see in the shiny spots on the seal here.

The Timken seals fit the bore just fine, but they also bottom onto the roller bearing cage, locking the cage in place. And, I tried the seal both directions; The way it was meant to be installed...and the way that reverses the sealing surface, but still might work...except that the neoprene seal hits the step in the side of the inner bearing race and won't go into the hub.

All in all, a frustrating experience, but I did confirm that:

- For the CPP kit, the seals they sell you NEED the outer lip that bottoms the seal on the hub lip before it hits the roller bearing cage.

- The 6064 seals would have been perfect for the original roller bearings (that my truck ate long ago).

So then, back to the original question...

I will be ordering the correct seals from classic parts as they are the cheapest I have found so far. Would be nice to have a seal number just for future reference though.

Thanks for your patience,

Jim
