For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 | I notice that the gas tank filler necks of '49's don't all come out at the same place. I take it that 49 was the change over year. Some of them come out of the cab and others come out of the bed. Someone know the story on this? I would guess that since several palnts made the trucks, the change might not have happened all at the same time. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 2,031 | i believe only one year (49) they did come out the side, low in front of the fender, an under bed tank. i changed mine back to under the bed, between the frame rails on the 51.

Bigger trucks used ones outside the frame. The restore pac lists 49's as having it in the cab. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | If it's an early production '49 it may have been registered by the year of manufacture, rather than the model year. Some states did it that way. Some times guys will register a '49-'43 as a '48 to get past athe '48 model year cutoff for the hot rod shows/clubs.
