For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 6 | There are some pic's in the gallery of a Federal aircraft tug (cab only) from 9/01/2008. The owner-Dennis Johnson of Beresford, S.D. says he would like to find a good home for it. These things are quite rare and I could really use it to restore my 1957 federal tug. If anyone could put me in contact with Dennis, I would almost be in stovebolt heaven, and greatly appreciate it. I might be able to track him down from that. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 6 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 6 | Hi Paul
Thank you for your help and quick response. I'm not sure how to cut and paste the link, but it is easy to find the pic's. If you click the "SEARCH" forum at the top of this page, and then in the google search box type "federal aircraft tug". Click search, and the fifth link down from the top on the left side is titled "STOVEBOLT GALLERY---Another great antique Chevy/GMC Truck..." Clicking this will pull up the link and the Pic's. If there is anything more I can do to help you, please let me know. Have a great day!
Mark

That will launch your email client so you can send him email. So far, no ideas. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 . | | . Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,878 | I thought about it too. Trouble is the back is as narrow as the front. I think to make a decent looking crew cab out of it you'd remove windshield and firewall with windows, add a real cab back with window. To do so you'd have to move the rear set of doors out at the back, making them more parallel to each other by widening part of the roof. Then you're left with vent windows on the back side of those doors which look funny, so you remove them and square up the window frames...
At which point you may as well have started off with 2 stock cabs and not the federal truck cab in the first place.

Then you're still left with the front section of a cab. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | ....sure hate seeing the tugger cut up but its not mine. Surely there is something it can be used on..... .and folks could wonder if your coming or going | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 1,775 | Good point. Put fenders, grill, and hood on both sides. I'll donate a hood to anyone that wants to do it. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 Crusing in the Passing Lane | | Crusing in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 5,096 | There was(is) one around here, pretty heavy, stock, used to tow around B-36 aircraft. Seems like one could get an AD suburban that was wrecked in the front or rear, cut a piece of the body behind the cab out the length one wants, weld it in after cutting this one in the exact middle!
