My truck is a 1/2 ton, 1953. I just got my transmissions swapped out, hooked everything back up, put the shifter back in. I have the truck on the hoist, just off the floor. I started the engine and am going through the gears. It shifts into all the gears fine (not sure about reverse) but when I let the clutch up, it stalls out as if it is stuck in 2 gears. I picked the transmission up at Jim Carter's last Sept, they checked it over, I think the problem is a minor one. Any help is much appreciated.

Release the emergency brake. smile If the wheels are off the ground with no resistance, the rear brakes must be on/screwed up. Or rear end/driveshaft locked. Turn the rear wheels by hand one at a time with engine off and trans in neutral to check movement of driveline. If it is still stuck, push in clutch. If that works, its a clutch component bind. Clutch plate/spring fingers, fork, pilot bushing or throw out bearing could be binding somehow. Never heard of tranny guts getting that screwed up after being checked over and lubed.

Problem solved, the shifter fork was not aligned correctly.

These guys with the heated cozy shops with lifts can do anything they want regardless of our winter weather! Good luck with your new tranny, Leo.

Leo,

What are you going to do with that old transmission? I thought it was kind of quiet once the fluid levels were topped out.

Glad to hear from you.

Amtrakjoe, I sat next to that transmission coming back from Jim Carter's .......
