Hi all, my name is Chris and I'm from Oxford England,just joined you on this great forum, only discovered you a few months ago and it's been real helpful. I have a 1950 3100 truck which I got in April this year, it had just landed in England from Minnesoto where it had been laid up in a barn since 1978. It's a one owner, 48000 miles from new truck but a hard 48000 mile farm truck repaired with what ever was to hand. It had the usual mice damage / nests / crap everywhere. After a good clean out (mask and safety glasses) and power wash inside and out I put a plan together. Stripped the chassis, this was in good condition no holes or damage. I primed and painted with chassis black. Rebuilt front and rear springs and painted axles. All the brakes were shot, so new wheel cylinders, shoes, hoses, brake lines and master cylinder. By this time I was on a roll, fuel tank out, cleaned, back in with new hoses, fuel pipe and carb rebuild. Body is in quite good shape no rot just minor dings and a lot of patina. I have been over this with Gibbs brand to keep it as is. Was in California in October for vacation and managed to get most things I needed for it from the Truck Shop. All I need now is time and descent weather as I'm working on it outside as garage is full (the Wife's 1954 Morris and my 1932 Ford roadster). Sorry if I've gone on a bit but this truck has got me buzzin again

Chris, sounds like this may not even be your last one! Welcome to the Stovebolt Page. Best dang site on the web for old Chev's and GMC's. I also had a 50 some years back.

Sounds like your close to starting it up. If there is any problems just ask your questions in the most appropriate forum and let the bolters work for you. Tons of knowledge and great folks here to help you out.

...and when you get a chance we'd love to see a picture of this nice barn fresh pickup! Nice catch.

Welcome Chris. I guess you were on a roll, sounds like a lot of it is done. Is it tough or expensive to get it road legal? Good luck with the rest of the work.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, already found some useful info on here, should save me some time and mistakes!
It wasn't to bad getting the truck registered, all I needed to do was insure it on the chassis number, take the certificate, customs paperwork,the usa pink slip, a completed aplication form and £55 ($87) down to the local licencing office and 5 days later I had a reg number and reg doc. This process has changed a bit in the last 6 months since I did mine, all the local offices have now been closed and all paper work has to be sent to a central office and you stand a good chance of having to have the vehicle inspected which can cause all sorts of problems. Any vehicle pre 1960 is now exempt from an MOT test ( which is a yearly safety check on vehicles 3 years and older) not a good thing in my opinion as it's good to have a fresh pair of eyes look over a finished project. Also anything pre 1973 is road tax exempt which on average is £210 ($332)a year. Trouble is gas is around £6.50 ($10.30) a gallon!!

The Stovebolt is by far the best Chevy truck forum bar none.

I'm talking from experience,there are many people here who have gone out their way and at their own expense to help me out,pretty amazing considering i've never met them outside this place.

BTW there's nothing to stop you taking your truck for an MOT if you so desire and I agree,it's peace of mind.

Welcome.Been to the site a few years but just started talking this week.Love most thing old with wheels.Is your 32 glass or steel?Oldest ever for me was 32 chevy.At 67 myself things older than me still going make me feel a bit better.

At last I've got some free time on the laptop, been flat out at work leading up to Christmas and been away for a few days over the holidays. Got to work on the truck today though, started wiring it.

Seen alot of AD truck on UK eBay lately and was waiting for the arrival of more Brits, Im in North Devon , Darracott.
My build is not a hotrod but wish to go to the Hot rod Hay ride when she is finished ???? May sea you on the road one day !

The moderators may delete this or at best ban it to be resurrected in another forum but til they do, I'd like to know how your '50 handles the torque of a diesel engine conversion. Or did you remount the '50 body on a complete diesel drive train?

G'day sandra,
Im new to the forum thing so dont know about Moderators, but you can find my build lurking in the Hipo shop of stovebolt. your right the complete drive chain to make her 4x4, it takes the guess work out of all the caulations, I let mitsubishi do all that research, happy to chat , Darrin.
