Is there a way to back of the brakes, the drums wont slide off even with help from a hammer. Which way do you turn the bolts to adjust brakes. '37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.

I'm modifying a gear puller to get drums off the first time, then loosen up brake cylinders. Those drums are very hard to come by so you really don't want to harm them. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 396 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 396 | To remove drum, 3 fairly long pry bars and a BFH, Beat on the edge of drum on outside, Insert one pry bar at approx 2:00 O'clock position, one at about 6:00 and third at about 2:00
Beat some more on drum and drive in pry bars, beat some more, drive in bars, You should see some movement,if yes, keep at it. If not remove brake cylinded ffrom rear of backing plate this should get you some movement.report back here with progress or fail report. We will assist you further if you experience a Fail. Good luck, Jerry DO NOT DESTROY the drum, They are as scarce as hens teeth.

I normally have to use a giant screwdriver and turn it with pliers or get them started with a chisel before they turn. If you already have these screws removed then you are in for a rough time.
