| | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 1,214 | Been working my new switch and rebuilt heater/defroster lately and that switch definitely runs hot. it's a variable resistance type switch and it runs hotter when it's turned down to run the 6v motor slow. It smoked the 1st couple times I ran it but it seems to have burnt off whatever packing/grease etc that may have been on it when new. It still gets so hot that you can't touch the porcelain and metal backing. Is this SOP for this setup? The lower speed of the motor is the result of current being shunted away and dissipated as heat by the switch.

Course I only went back about 5 or 6 threads in both results and didn't come up with a thing related to what I was searching for. But mine is doing just as your's did. My light is bright when set on high also. Looks like it's SOP for these switches to run hot. Dave | | |
